Problème de load en direct !

Bonsoir,

J'ai un problème en ce moment même sur mon serveur. J'y héberge un site qui tourne normalement depuis plusieurs mois. Ce soir le nombre de visiteurs semble normal mais le serveur est (pour la première fois en 5 mois) très lent.

Le load explose complètement, il est actuellement à 120 et il grimpe ! Alors que le CPU usage est autour de 2%. Avec 3 running processes et 380 sleeping. Je ne comprends pas ce qui se passe...

Sauriez-vous ce que je peux faire pour comprendre d'où vient cette charge soudaine et très violente ?

Un top pour avoir un apercu des process , un test du débit du disque voir si ca n'est pas ca qui ralenti la machine (paquet hdparm et apercu avec la commande hdparm -t /dev/<sda ou hda>)

Pour te donner une idée, sur mon pc de bureau : Timing buffered disk reads: 52 MB in 3.16 seconds = 16.48 MB/sec

les process sont classiques et très peu gourmands en cpu :

que des

php
httpd
init
kswapd0
top

c'est tout. Rien d'anormal de ce côté là

Je dirais que c'est un problème de saturation des accès disques, le principal coupable étant généralement un serveur sql...

Voir vmstat et/ou iostat et/ou ps axl pour avoir en savoir plus, et regarder les requêtes SQL en cours... Voir les logs mysqld aussi.

Il dit qu'il n'as pas de process bouffants beaucoup de ressources donc je doute que ca soit un problème logiciel

la load est finalement retombée, sans que j'ai vraiment compris se qui s'était passé.

Ce n'était pas un problème de serveur sql vu que la partie sql est gérée par un autre serveur. Le serveur qui a eu un problème est juste mon serveur front-end php + images et éléments statiques.

Le problème réapparait, à nouveau à une heure de pointe (load average 125), cpu 3% usage et 92% waiting...
le serveur répond très très lentement.

je viens de découvrir que pendant cette période de "pointe", il y a tout d'un coup beaucoup d'erreurs apache :

des
mysql_connect(): Lost connection to MySQL serveur during query
mysql_select_db(): Access denied for user ...
mysql_select_db(): A link to the server could not be established
mysql_query(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource
etc...

sachant que le serveur MySQL est un autre serveur qui lui n'avait aucun problème de charge pendant cette période.

c'est peut-être la cause du problème (si le serveur MySQL reçoit trop de requêtes depuis le serveur php et qu'il commence à les refuser)
ou peut-être la conséquence du problème (le serveur php est tellement lent qu'il n'arrive pas à établir des connexions avec le serveur mysql d'où erreurs)

vmstat tout court ça donne juste la moyenne depuis le démarrage de la machine, c'est pas top utile. Fais un vmstat 5 5 par exemple, ça te donnera les mesures sur 5 intervalles de 5 secondes.

Il y a clairement un problème de saturation des accès disque, soit parce que la machine swappe, soit parce que quelque chose (j'ai tendance à penser plein de trucs) font plein d'accès disque.

On va voir ce que dit vmstat, mais il y aura soit des nombres élevés dans les colonnes swap, soit dans les colonnes io. Dans le premier cas, ça veut dire que tu as trop de processus ou des processus qui consomment trop de RAM chacun. Ca peut être un problème de config Apache tout con dans ce cas, ou un réel manque de ressources sur la machine. Le résultat d'un top (complet) et un ps -axl (complet) seraient utiles pour diagnostiquer.

Dans le deuxième cas, il va falloir isoler le ou les processus qui font beaucoup d'accès disque. Sous FreeBSD on pourrait voir ça avec un top -mio, mais je ne sais pas comment on fait sous Linux.

après 10-20 minutes, la charge est retombée à des valeurs plus normales (comme tous les soirs à l'heure de pointe).

j'ai fait un vmstat 5 5 (je ne sais pas si c'est très indicatif vu que la charge est normale maintenant), mais pour info ça donne (en moyennant les 5 résultats) :

Ce sera plus utile de voir ce que ça donne pendant en effet. Mais c'est déjà loin d'être négligeable (ça dépend de la nature des accès: séquentiels ou aléatoires, mais à mon avis le disque est déjà proche de la saturation là).

Ben elle a un peu de boulot ta machine, y'a du monde, en particulier un serveur mysql (je croyais qu'il n'y en avait pas), une tripotée de trucs pour le mail, tout un tas d'httpd (qui sont heureusement petits), un php séparé (pas un grand spécialiste de php, mais il ne devrait pas être embarqué en module dans httpd?)... Tu as combien de RAM dans cette machine?

Il manque aussi le top complet, et tant qu'à faire, les paramètres genre MaxClients, MinSpareServers et MaxSpareServers de ton httpd.

Evidemment le ps -axl + top + vmstat pendant le problème c'est idéal, mais le top même maintenant ça permet d'apprendre plein de choses.
